VITAL RECORDS (Birth, Marriage, Death)
Birth, Marriage & Death Records are maintained at both the city/town/borough AND State levels. If the local clerk does not have the document, contact the State of New Jersey

- East Greenwich NJ Township Clerk (limited) official collection of vital records began in 1848, but county clerks did record information on marriages before that date. You may contact the East Greenwich Registrar by phone or mail, and she will research to see if the records are available locally. If you wish for a copy of the original, you must state that in your request.


- NJ Department of Health and Human Services - Vital Records from June 1878 to present. The link above provides information on how to obtain these documents and an application form. Telephone and FAX requests are available, using a credit card to order the documents.

New Jersey Archives - maintain some marriages prior to 1795 and other limited vital records.

Churches of Gloucester County NJ - some churches maintain records of baptisms, marriage and funerals. If you know the church, you can contact them directly.


DIVORCE RECORDS
Divorce records for 1900-1989 are kept by the Records Information Center of the state Superior Court. For records after 1989 contact the NJ county court that issued the divorce decree.

Obtain a Divorce Decree or Document

A certified copy of a decree is $10, payable by check or money order, to Clerk of the Superior Court. Your request should include:
-Docket number (if possible)
-First and last names of the parties
-Year of decree or (at least) a 5-to-10 year range
-Legal size, self-addressed, stamped envelop

DEEDS AND LAND RECORDS

Many historical records are recorded in the County Clerk’s Office dating back to 1686, the year that Gloucester County was incorporated. In fact, the deed of the first property purchased by the United States Government dated July 5, 1776 is one of the documents on record here along with other countless recordings that affect real estate title. These records include deeds, mortgages, judgments, and other land attachments.
