L A G C E R E M O N Y at SAMUEL MICKLE SCHOOL June 9, 2004 |
On June 9, 2004, East Greenwich NJ students and teachers gathered at the Samuel
Mickle School in Mickleton for a special event.
It
was a beautiful sight with flag-waving students and teachers in attendance. The
ceremony began with the traditional salute to the flag of the United States.
Speakers included East Greenwich School Superintendent Joseph Conroy; Loretta
G. Savidge, Principal of the Samuel Mickle School; Joshua Meyer, Principal of
the Jeffrey Clark School; George Popp of Mickleton from the Anthony T. Calista
VFW Post 5579 (and a committeman of East Greenwich Township), and Janice Brown,
East Greenwich Township historian. Honored guests attending were veterans Howard
DeVault (of Mt. Royal), Ed Corker (of Mickleton), Lou Marshall, and Fred Feuerborn
(of Clarksboro).

An inspiring flag
folding demonstration ceremony was offered by George Popp, Howard DeVault, and
Ed Corker of Anthony T. Calista VFW Post 5579 of Gibbstown NJ, honored local veterans,
Ed Corker, Lou Marshall, and Fred Feuerborn, and two students each from the Jeffrey
Clark and Samuel Mickle schools.

of Anthony T. Calista VFW Post 5579 assists with the flag ceremony
| Several
students, with the assistance of Samuel Mickle School principal, Loretta G. Savidge
raised the school's flag, then lowered it to half staff to mourn the death of
former President Ronald Reagan. Patriotic poems written by the students were read
aloud. Several patriotic songs were played with the students, teachers and guests
singing along. Janice Brown, the township historian, took the students back in
time to talk about what their school would have been like 125 years ago.
